Pandemonium, 1825 - John Martin

This painting represents the place the fallen angels built for their council chamber. Apparently by Mulciber ( Vulcan) the architect of the palaces of heaven before the fall. The idea was derived from Milton - Paradise Lost.

Martin's paintings are monumental. I always feel engulgfed by them, part of the theatre of the scene. When dreaming there are no edges....the impression of these dynamc paintings suggest this phenomena.
